Keeping Your Public Pool Safe

Phil DolphBy Phil DolphJanuary 1, 2021No Comments3 Mins Read

If you have a small business that maintains a swimming pool or spa for guests, you need to do everything you can to ensure that the facility is a safe as possible. Whenever the public and water get together, there is a possibility of accidents. And swimming pools can have many dangers if they are not properly managed or maintained. There are several regulations that need to be followed, but on top of that, there are some common sense procedures that should help you keep everyone safe and happy. Here are some helpful tips.

  • Insist on Excellent Water Management: A great hidden danger of swimming pools is the danger of waterborne infections. Your guests will not think twice about the water they are swimming in because they expect that your pool is safe. But if you have not established a good procedure for water maintenance you are taking a chance of making people sick. Keep your chlorine levels between one and 3 PPM and keep your PH between 7.2 to 7.8. Make sure you check the chlorine levels daily and shock your pool at least once a week to keep on top of water quality concerns. And remember to have a scheduled routine of cleaning to keep debris out of your system.
  • Restrict Entry: One of the biggest problems with public pools is when people like to go for a swim outside of the posted hours. Most likely these are the times that people are going to get up to mischief. Engineering a good pool defence is essential. You should have a good fence and quality gates so that you can keep people out when the pool is closed. You can have an expert go over your swimming pool compliance checklist in Sydney through this link.
  • Keep the Drains Clear: Improperly designed or installed swimming pool drains are a common source of injury. If your pool is new you should have the system inspected by an outside safety expert. Make sure there is no chance that someone can get stuck on the drains and have a look at your skimmer drains as well.

On top of these things, the most important safety feature you can have is to clearly label all your rules, and the locations of life saving equipment. If everyone knows where the safety equipment is and the rules of the pool, chances are that your guests will be safe and well taken care of. Also make sure that you have as much supervision as possible.
